Pain & Mobility
Plantar fasciitis: heel pain when you first get up.
Plantar fasciitis is a very common problem, usually felt as tenderness on the bottom of the foot in the heel area.
This may help if…
- The bottom of your heel feels tender or sore
- Your heel is painful first thing in the morning
- It hurts when you get up after sitting for a long time
- The pain extends from your heel out to your arch
What to expect
-
Intake form
At your first appointment, you'll fill in an intake form outlining your health problems, family history and any medication you're taking.
-
Assessment
Your feet will then be assessed and you can address any problems you are experiencing, such as heel pain.
-
Treatment
Treatment will be provided to you accordingly, with your consent.
How it feels
The tenderness can extend out to the arch area or stay localized in the heel. Most people find it painful first thing in the morning or when getting up after sitting for a long period of time. It often feels better after basic activity as the day passes.
What causes it
The plantar fascia (a strong strip of tissue on the sole of your foot, stretching from the heel towards the toes) becomes strained and can cause inflammation in the heel area.
Treatment options
Various modes of treatment are available. After assessing your feet, your chiropodist will talk with you about which of these may help:
