Care for Every Age

Proper-fitting shoes for growing feet.

It is very important for children to wear proper-fitting shoes, as their bones are still developing and can continue to grow until about age 12 or 13.

This may help if…

  • Your child is growing and you're not sure their shoes still fit
  • Your child's shoes look tight at the toes
  • You're buying new shoes and want to check the fit properly
  • You have a concern about your child's feet and would like them assessed

What to expect

  1. Intake form

You'll fill in an intake form outlining your child's health problems, family history and any medication they're taking.

  2. Assessment

Your child's feet will then be assessed and you can address any problems they are experiencing.

  3. Treatment

Treatment will be provided to your child accordingly, with your consent.

Checking the fit

  • Make sure to measure both feet and fit the shoes to the larger foot.
  • Make sure there is room between the longest toe (sometimes it is not the big toe) and the shoe. There should be a finger's width of space from the tip of the shoe.
  • The inside of the shoe should be 1 cm longer than the foot to allow space and movement.
  • Have your child stand up in the shoes with the laces tied and go for a walk in them.
