Nail & Skin Care
Athlete's foot: itchy, scaly skin between your toes.
Athlete's foot is caused by a fungal infection of the skin. It can appear between the toes, in the arch area or in other areas, usually on the soles of the feet.
This may help if…
- The skin between your toes is scaly, itchy or burning
- You have redness or scaly skin in the arch or on the sole of your foot
- You're not sure what's causing the itching or redness
- You have diabetes and have noticed changes in the skin on your feet

Looking after your feet
Self-care includes clean and dry socks, air drying your shoes, and wearing shoes or sandals on deck areas of swimming pools and in public changing rooms. Make sure it's nice and dry between your toes, as this can help prevent fungal infections.
Having it assessed
Our skin can tell us a lot about our health, and it is important to not only look at our skin, but to also touch and assess it. Your chiropodist will look at the skin on your feet and talk with you about treatment options.
Fungus can also infect the nails and cause damage to the nail. It often appears discoloured and thickened. If your toenails look like this, see fungal toenails.
